Sangit Bhavana

Sangeet Bhavana, Visva Bharati University

Sangit Bhavana, the Institute of Music, Dance, and Drama at Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, is a haven for students passionate about Indian performing arts. Founded by Rabindranath Tagore, it offers a unique blend of traditional music, dance, and drama with a creative, holistic approach. With expert training, cultural events, and a serene campus, it’s perfect for aspiring artists looking to master their craft.

History and Establishment

Started in 1919 as part of Kala Bhavana, Sangit Bhavana became a separate institute in 1934. Tagore, a poet and musician, envisioned a space where music and dance would thrive as core parts of education. Early students studied Rabindra Sangit, Hindustani classical music, and dances like Manipuri and Kathakali, performing at festivals like Basanta Utsav. Today, it’s a renowned centre for preserving Indian performing arts and Tagore’s artistic legacy.
